Fishing & Hunting

Designated by the Missouri Department of Conservation as one of ten “Blue Ribbon Trout Areas”, the spring-fed waters of Crane Creek provide excellent trout habitat. The McCloud Rainbow Trout in Crane Creek have been reproducing on their own for over 100 years since the Missouri Department of Conservation last stocked the creek in 1920.

On the farm, we offer 3/4 of a mile of direct, exclusive access to this pristine and seldom-fished section of Crane Creek. Immediately downstream from surrounding private farms and the Southern section of the Wire Road Conservation Area, fishing at Walnut Bend Lodge will provide you with exclusive access to the state’s best wild McCloud rainbow trout.

Access for hunting is strictly limited. Contact the owners directly for access availability. Hunting at Walnut Bend Lodge is unique in that you have cover and food for deer and turkey, as well as small game and birds. Of the 175-acre farm, over 100 acres are wooded. The amount of wildlife in the area is largely due to bottomland grain and hay fields and very low hunting pressure which makes an almost perfect setup for a successful hunt.

White-tailed deer and wild turkeys abound. Game camera pictures have also picked up bobcats, coyotes, foxes, raccoons, opossums, and armadillos. There is some disagreement, but we also have captured what appears to possibly be a photo of a bear as well as mountain lion tracks.

Recent improvements now include a ground-level accessible hunting blind as well as an elevated and enclosed platform stand and premium hunting blind. A successful 1/2 acre foot plot was planted in 2022 with plans for future expansion.

For those who prefer nature watch, the farm offers ample opportunity. Several blue herons nest on the east end of the farm. Bald eagles migrate throughout the area in the winter making their home in the sycamores that grow on the banks of Crane Creek.

Hiking along our 2 miles of mowed trails and arrowhead hunting are other activities enjoyed by our guests.
